Bevis Marks

5. The first Sephardi synagogue was established in 1657, but the congregation quickly outgrew the premises.

In 1701 the congregation moved to Bevis Marks synagogue, still a functioning synagogue to this day.









Petticoat lane

6. Petticoat Lane market, one of the most famous in the world, was primarily a Jewish street market up until recent times.

Nowadays, although there are still a few Jewish traders, it is becoming a predominantly Asian market, to highlight the changing social climate of the East End.
